Diagnosis:  Complicated Mild, Moderate to Severe TBI  

Title: Training to Reconnect With Emotional Awareness Therapy 

Inclusion: Complicated Mild, Moderate to Severe TBI; 18 years or older; minimum of 1 year post-injury  

Exclusion: Premorbid neurological disorders impacting mood or cognition or major psychiatric disorder; inability to follow directions 

Benefits: Potential to improve participants’ ability to process emotions; learn how to modify/ improve the intervention for future iterations. 

Basics:  Need participants who are likely to have problems with emotional awareness (we will test for this); This study includes a baseline session that will last approximately 2-3 hours. Treatment, for eligible participants, will include 8 treatment sessions over a 4-week period. Eligible participants will also complete assessments 2-3 more times after baseline testing. The study may last approximately 4.5-7.5 months.

Understanding Health and Wellness After TBI Research Study Flyer.pdf

IU School of Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana researchers are looking for looking for people with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) participate in a research study on understanding health and wellness after brain injury. The purpose of this study is to learn what factors are influencing health and wellness after a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and to use this information to create treatments that will hopefully improve quality of life for people with TBI.  

 

If you are eligible and agree to participate there will be two parts to study participation. In part I, a research assistant will interview participants to collect information about the participant’s demographics and relevant medical history via phone, a videoconference call or in person. Next, participants will independently complete an electronic or paper survey about their health and wellness. This will take approximately 30-60 minutes. 

 

 You may be eligible if you:  

1. Have had a traumatic brain injury.  

2. Had your brain injury at least 12 months ago (or longer).  

3. Are 18 years of age or older.  

 

You will be compensated for your time.
